Does TF 2012 seem a little lackluster so far?

I know it just "started" today but from what I've seen, which appears to be most or all of Hasbro's offerings and all of Lego's offering, this feels like the most boring TF to date. I'm not really complaining as it seems my wallet is going to get a well needed break.

I'm trying to remember, but were there any huge surprises at last year's Toy Fair?

I think it's pretty good so far especially with the FoC stuff. There's a few little surprises littered throughout like the ST Kre-O and the Marvel Mini Muggs, There's still the MOTUC and DCUC to see today.

Well considering that TF has been upstaged by many of the 'Cons over the last four or five years it's to be somewhat expected. TF just isn't what it started out as all those years ago. It went from being a show designed to let stores see what's coming out to a show that people wait for to get pics and info on up coming product, while the stores know about this stuff months before hand. What really solidified the turning point for TF is when some of the companies started having there own TF like events that ran concurrently with TF (Hasbro being the first and they still don't show up at TF).

I'm not underwhelmed....but I'm certainly not blown away by anything.

The only really great thing I've seen so far is Neca's Portal gun. The marvel legend selection leaves me cold, as does the avengers figures and the new spidey stuff.

I definitely agree about the Con's comment. More to the point though, it seems almost everything for Marvel Universe and Legends were shown at last year's TF...it seems, or maybe it was SDCC? Hopefully Mattel will show off some awesome stuff.
