If you haven't seen IM3 yet, do not read any further...lots of SPOILERS.

I picked up the Iron Man 3 Lego sets about a month ago knowing nothing about the movie other than the charactors I had seen in the trailers and toys being solicated. I have ruined a lot of movies before, reading spy reports and set updates, so I try to stay away from SPOILER ALERTS from now on.

So after seeing IM3, good summer movie, no Avengers though, I started to think about the 3 Lego sets for this movie and realized 2 of the 3 sets are total BS not to mention War Machine wasn't even in the movie. Now I don't know if Lego got the 411 from Marvel on what to include in these sets, but the Mandarin was a complete non factor, so why is he in 2 of the 3 sets, and why not include more Extremis Soldiers, maybe making a battle pack instead of a speedboat chase that doesn't happen. So where is the Iron Patriot minifigure? In an upcoming game promotion with Walmart for a holiday season release.

With the real villian in the movie being Molten Man and his Extremis Army, I would have rather gotten some sets reflecting this storyline rather than pushing a twist from the movie. As I mentioned earlier, I did enjoy the movie. It had a great summer feel to it with lots of adventure, action, and comedy not seen in the previous two movies. But there are ways to promote the movie through mechandising without misleading the public, I'll bet this was Marvel/ Disney's fault.

this is like complaining that Kenner made an Arctic Blast Batman when there was no Arctic Blast Batman in the movie.

they do it with every toy line for every movie. why so surprised?

If you buy Movie Themed Lego Sets, there is usually a lot of planning involved with both parties, Lego and Movie Co. X, to produce products for fans to recreate the film and redesign in their own way. Look at the Avengers, Star Wars, Prince of Persia, all of which have been very faithful to the films there are attached to. Even the upcoming 6 Lone Ranger sets look to follow the movie closely inhopes to bring in all age groups after the movie has been released to look for the sets.

Do what you want with the post, I just question why companies do the things they do.

It's because of the lead-time required to produce the toys. They go off the earlier scripts, and never off the final draft, because the time required to produce toys means nothing would ever come out during the movie's release if they waited for the final draft. One of the DST reps stated that War Machine was featured in the early drafts of the script.

Changes happen. Stuff gets made based on cut scenes all the time (IM2's minimate c2e2 exclusive set with civilian Black Widow), and things where the concept art isn't finalized in time don't get made (IM2 Final Battle Whiplash, for example)

It's actually shocking that you've been around long enough you should know this by now, as it's been covered enough times. Companies spend lots of money to develop stuff, are they expected to throw it all away and have nothing to sell when the studio cuts the scene?

Just trying to drum up some conversation...in case you hadn't noticed the board has been pretty dry lately.

With the Lego sets I mentioned being so far from the final parts of the story, I was just trying to let people know about the differences & disappointments I experienced. So, thanks again "Anonymous" for helpful post.

"Do what you want with the post, I just question why companies do the things they do."

You questioned why they do the things they do, don't get snarky when you're given the answer. You weren't just sharing your experience, you ended with that specific question.

Oh come on dude, first of all get a real name on here instead of trolling. Warhead is a respectable member on here and was making a valid point.

This bored IS dry right now, and he was just making conversation.

Most action figure lines from movies yes are based off of pre-production artwork or designs. The Star Wars prequel trilogy had this the most, figures coming with accessories that were NOT in the final film (alot of it being Attack of the Clones) hell I even bet Hasbro is working on SW Ep7 figure designs right now considering they have said in the past, production starts on their mainline 2 years in advance. Batman in artic armor is more of a gimmick or a filler than something based off of a movie. Look at the original Transformers movie line, I remember a couple of non movie characters being packaged with the first wave with the 70's style Bumblebee. Most of the time these are called "Off-Screen" Characters.

What Warhead was trying to point out is that Lego usually is pretty good about their sets tying into the movie. The IM3 line is just so extreme that it is unusual for Lego to do something like that. I had forgotten about the set with Mandarin and IM and saw it at Walmart the other night and laughed. It does make me wonder why they did what they did!

First off, come on dude, anyone who disagrees with you isn't automatically "trolling".

Second, this "bored" right now has been dry for awhile, and it's understandable if these are the kind of posts we get. It was a "troll" question that was posted in the first place, and if that's what you need to get conversation started around here, then it's no wonder so many have left.

Warhead might as well have asked why they even bother to make toys based on licensed properties - we all know the answer, and it's a no-brainer. But hey, it's a conversation starter! And if anyone points out the banality of such a question, and even posts an answer, then you can attack them and call them a "Troll". Gee, you guy are so much fun!!

Pretty much the fact that you cant post a name on here is what I would call trolling. Your smart ass answer to his question didn't really help either.

Anyways doesnt matter to me one way or the other what you think.

You'd think at the very least they'd have Patriot instead of War Machine II or whatever; that seems like an easy enough thing to fix, and even something like Iron Man Legends or whatever that line is called had two Iron Patriots in it.

Look at something like the Hot Toys Power Pose Red Snapper. One of it's main features/sculpts is something that doesn't happen in the movie at all, and that's a high end collectible. IIRC, they also announced a Mandarin figure that I'm pretty sure will be cancelled.
