September 19, 2014 - School has started again, so our fast food trips have again slowed down. The boy didn't make any trips this past month, but I did go to McDonald's to pick up a Hexbug toy. They still had the display up for the previous promotion, so you get two pictures this time around, yay!
If you missed last month's round-up, head back there and scroll to the bottom, as we had several informative comments from anonymous posters. (Thanks, folks!)
Let's see what's out there in restaurants this month! (More after the jump)
A quick check of the web sites for the more popular fast food restaurants reveals the following:
- McDonald's has Hexbug toys and Monster High accessories in their Happy Meals. There are eight Hexbug toys - half of them are wind-ups and the other half are pull-back toys. Still fun to play with, but not the cheap source of batteries that maybe we were all hoping they would be. The next promotion shown is The Book of Life.
The McDonald's McPlay app now has free ebooks in it as well as a game. The ebooks are also available on their web site.
- Burger King has brought back their kids meal web site, and they are featuring Dolphin Tale 2 toys at the moment. Last month I had called a national number and asked about upcoming promotions, and this one was not on that list, so I am hoping that the rest of the list is still accurate: Ice Age toys coming in September, Rio 2 in October, and Tom and Jerry toys in December.
- The Chick-fil-A site shows Outdoor Adventure toys as the goodies in their Kid's Meals. The under 3 toy is a board book of Clifford the Big Red Dog.
- The Wendy's web site still does not list the toys at all, but sometimes they mention the toys on their Facebook page. Our local Wendy's in Colorado has toys from various Dreamworks movies. When I called to check, the confused fellow said, "it's from like, all different cartoons." I had already eaten breakfast at McDonald's to get a Hexbug, so I made do with a phone call to Wendy's instead of a visit.
- Carl's Jr. and Hardee's both now have The BoxTrolls toys and activities. Starting in early November, the promotion changes to How to Train Your Dragon 2.
- Subway Kids Meals have Star Wars: Rebels drawstring backpacks. There are six available.
- Like Wendy's, Arby's has revamped their web site and it doesn't seem to show the toy anymore. In the comments last month, an anonymous commenter did my legwork for me and discovered that they had Mr. Potato Head toys, with Mr. Men and Little Miss toys coming this month.
No changes from last month at these restaurants:
- Sonic has seven different SpongeBob SquarePants toys that they are promoting in their Wacky Pack meals.
- Taco Bell has phased out Kids Meals and their Kids Menu. Most of the items will still be available on their regular menu, but will no longer be marketed as for kids, so really the only difference is that the toys are gone.

Amazing Spiderman 2 at Captain D's
I just discovered from a print ad that Captain D's has an Amazing Spiderman 2 promotion with their kids meal. The web site at http://www.captainds.com/menu/kids-meals shows the Fun Pack which includes an activity book, 3d glasses, crayon and tattoos.
