The trouble with the pictures not showing up is due to the filter replacing the long strings of numbers. That part of the filter is built-in and I do now know how to hack that.

I could turn off the filter entirely, but then we get spam and bad words and lose the ability to use the BBcode that everyone seems to like. Many of bad words that are filtered out are quite shocking, and so I do not consider this to be a viable option.

I've spent some time going in circles and have now found some add-ons to the filter that _I think_ will allow certain links to come through. But I'll need to turn off the site to add those, so that is something I'll wait to do in the middle of the night.

So what I need to know beforehand is... where do you host your images?

Flickr, Facebook, YouTube, Photobucket - are there any others that I am missing?

I'm not entirely certain that this will solve the problem, but it looks promising, and I wanted to update you to let you know I'm working on it.

Thanks for working on this, Bobbi. I was wondering what was going on with the images in the classifieds.
I use Photobucket pretty much exclusively, with an occasional dabble into Flickr.

I am going to post on the developers forum tonight. The thing that I thought would work did not.

Update - I'm going to ask the developers for advice on this one. I can't believe it hasn't come up before. There's probably just a box I forgot to toggle somewhere.

In the meantime, if you start a new thread and scroll past the body/text box, there should be an expandable menu thing for uploading a picture. It doesn't seem to be there for replies, which also bugs me.

Just curious... Does this concern uploading images to an RTM storage server somewhere, or linking to them, too?

The problem in question is when someone has a picture on Flickr or Photobucket and wants to link to it here. The html filters see the gaggle of numbers in the url and replace it with 555-5555 like a Hollywood phone number. So the links break, or the images show up as broken/bad links.

Uploading a picture to the RTM server works just fine, but people have tons of pictures in hosting services, so I'm hoping to be able to let them actually post their links here.

All of the photo-hosting plug-in modules I've been able to find for this CMS are for when you want to create an entire site of images you import from Flickr, etc. I just want people to be able to post a picture in the forum from there, I'm not wanting to import an entire gallery. There should be an easy solution to this, but I lack the vocabulary to find it.

(I did, however, find a smileys plug-in tonight, so I'll try to add that over the weekend. I hope it has my dancing banana in it!)

Once it is fixed for the forum, it should also be fixed for the Classified Ads and also for comments (on blog posts, news items, etc).

It took me two days of searching, but I found an answer and it seems to be all fixed now.

I posted my question on the developer forum, but ended up finding the fix in a thread from 2010. I guess I should go update my thread with a link to the answer in case anyone else runs into this?

So does the image have to be from an approved source here, or can it be from anywhere?

People might find new toy images in a blog or websotre smewhere, and might wand to show them here, especially if its something new we haven't seen yet.

I know on facebook I post images from all over the place.

Maybe try to add a link if it is from another web site? Or credit them somehow?

Just no scans from magazines! We always had to delete posts where people did that back when ToyFare was still around.
