I need a new DVD player and figure I might as well buy a Blu-Ray player....HOWEVER-I probably wont be buying the majority of my movies on Blu-Ray. I still prefer standard def,but some of the DVD sets that include Blu-Ray,DVD and Digital Copies interest me,and I would like a Blu-Ray player that upconverts standard def DVD's....anybody have any suggestions? I'm also not really interested in live-streaming or internet connectivity or apps or any of that stuff....just need a good Blu-Ray player for around $100. Thanks in advance!!!!

Pretty sure all blu ray players upconvert standard def dvds. It's just a question of how well.

Thanks PPP....I usually do ok when shopping for tech, but for some reason looking at Blu-Ray players shorts out my brain. I CAN NOT make sense out of half the things they do.

I think pretty much any of them will do what you want it to. All the bells and whistles are kind of superfluous. The online connectivity was more important when they were routinely updating the blu ray specs but they're kind of settled now.

Also a lot of the internet connected ones will let you stream netflix movies if you want.

As for recommendations, any major brand ones will be pretty good probably. I see there's a $60 Panasonic one on Amazon, but you might need to download a firmware update to make it run better(if you just hook the player up to an online connection it will download automatically, you can unhook it after that again if you want). But then again what you get out of the box might be good enough for you, so just try it out before updating.

Do Targets still have that super inormative video about Blu Ray?

"Is it a disk, or is it a player? It's BOTH!"
