Peter Jackson wore this on a shirt in one of The Hobbit production blogs:

So it's definitely very possible that that's our first glimpse of what Smaug's going to look like onscreen.

Thoughts? =)

I like it. Other than the tip of Smaug's tail, it's pretty faithful to how Tolkien portrayed the dragon in "Conversation with Smaug" (large image):

Spoiler: Highlight to view

I'm glad Peter Jackson and co. aren't doing a radical re-design (not that many probably expected them to, but still). =)

I'm just giddy that Benedict Cumberbatch is doing the voice (and aparently motion capture stuff. Weird). Oh and also the voice of the Necromancer. So he sort of gets to work with Martin Freeman some more.

For those that don't know, Benedict plays Sherlock Holmes in the absolutely amazing BBC series Sherlock, along with Martin Freeman as Watson. I've been a fan of Freeman's since the BBC Office but Sherlock has made me a huge fan of Cumberbatch.

I think this is just a concept image myself. I doubt they have Smaug "defined" yet.
