As a Gears of War Fan, I was excited to finally pick up one of the new Erector Sets which are TRU Exclusives. I had not see a lot of reviews on these sets so I was a little skeptical, but since I have a $10 GC, I grabbed the cheapest set TRU had, the Centaur.

The complexity of putting this set together is a little more than 8+ on the box. My 10 year son who is extremely fast at building Legos, would have had a tough time with this set. I'd probably say 12+ but parents always love finishing projects right?

The vehicles are not metal as you would think from picking up the box which is kind of heavy. Only the binding screws and nuts are metal, which is actually a good thing because this will eliminate scratching. However the screws and nuts do not run flush and many times the screws are running past the nut, which looks sloppy. Also, the stickers that come with the set don't always fit the spot that are intended to. I had the cut 3 of them down to apply. And last but not least, the minifigures are very low quality. Their hands and arms are very flimsy and fragile, and they do not have holes in their feet for posing with Lego stands. I was hoping for at least Mega Bloks quality with the minifgures, but I believe that this may be the first time Erector Sets come with minifigures so I hope they improve on them if they continue this line or future themed licenses.

Overall I was disappointed with this set. Being TRU EXclusives, these are priced about 25% higher than they should be for what you get in the finished product. I will probably pick up the Raven and stop there unless there is a BOGO sale.

Thanks for the review. You saved me some money. I'll assume you meant the Megabloks statement in a good way, as Megabloks minifigures are the "gold standard" for building/construction set toys.

Eventhough I don't care for the Halo Game, I really like the playability of the Mega Bloks Halo and Marvel Minifigures. I might try to switch the hands out with either Halo or Dragons Universe parts, they are that bad. I also forgot to mention that none of the minifigures can sit in the Centaur cockpit. I have Cole kind of squatting down in there now, but he looks stupid.

I would have to check myself to make sure I wasn't in the afterlife if it happened, but only Mega Bloks could truly do justice to the GI Joe line as a building/contruction type toy...mainly due to their vehicle accurate sets and the articulation of the minifigs. I would sell my 3 3/4 joes right away just to be able to build myself scale accurate Joe and Cobra bases.

Anyway.... Wink Thanks again for the detailed review!
