Just a general post for DCUC; got notified BBTS has wave 20 in, so we should see the last wave hit the stores before long.

Yep, happy these are finally on their way. Bummed about the scythe, but Nekron wasn't the reason I want these guys, so I'm excited. Even excited for the lazy repaint Sinestro to finally have a proper one.
If anyone wants to post numerous pics of Ollie and Roy I wont complain! I want these SO bad,but I'm so afraid to order online due to Mattels spotty QC. Wave 19 hasnt really hit in force around my parts,so it might be awhile before I see these at retail. Decisions,decisions.....
I will try to oblige when I get them, as well as the rest of the wave. With the new format, I'm itching to post some pics of my DCUC collection, which I've been itching to do anyway =>
I mourn the passing of the DCUC line. Truly the Kenner Super Powers line of the 21st Century.
Pretty good (i.e., Gold & Silver Age) DCUC character selection, exceptional sculpts, and pretty nifty articulation....no superfluous "action feature."
On the DCUC downside, skyrocketing prices, subhuman-looking female figures, some scale issues, NOT MARKETING DIRECTLY TO THE CORRECT CONSUMER DEMOGRAPHIC (i.e., trying to sell these overpriced, "cartoon-less" plastic heroes to clueless 10yo kids off big box store pegs rather than to adult collectors in specialty shops...or from a decent online site), and failure to make significant running changes to improve buck articulation (most figures STILL cannot move their heads any direction but laterally, no ball-jointed wrists, big feet & ankles, etc.)...I'm frankly surprised this line lasted as long as it did! (The Skittle Lanterns et al. telegraphed DCUC's demise to me.) I hope Marvels' (reborn) Legends line may approach the overall quality of the DCUC line...something Marvel has yet to accomplish with initial ML line.
Moreover, surveying my shelves last night, I decided that I really prefer some of the DC Direct characters over their DCUC counterparts. The recent "too tall" DCUC Golden Age Atom (with its monkey arms) is a good example. DCD got it closer to right with the 2-pack of GA Atoms, IMO. I also prefer other Golden Age Green Lanterns to the DCUC "open mouth, dingy red-shirt" version). The DCUC Dr. Mid-Nite seemed WAY too buff to me...I prefer the DCD one. At least DCDs were sold through local comic shops...I never had any problems buying any DCD I wanted, and knowing exactly when it would ship.
And I know some folks were pining for yet ANOTHER Jay Garrick Flash figure, this one by DCUC, but weren't there 3-4 DCD JG Flashes released? But NO Golden Age Mr.Terrific or Kirby Sandman & Sandy anywhere? Now that's disappointing.
Except for DCD's first (fatty Sandman) figure, this line started off pretty well...but scale creep and funky plastic disillusioned me after a year or two.
Good luck resolving the whole subscription boondoggle with Matty's waning QC. Unless Marvel Legends can/will start cranking out some Kirby Klassics in 6" scale, I'm afraid my figure collecting days may be over at $20/figure! Right now the only possibility on my radar screen for new hero figures? the new 12" Captain Action due out in March 2012...so they say.
Dont you mean it was the Super Powers line of the 1980's??? I get what they were trying to do,but it really annoyed me how they managed to make every single figure in the Super Powers line into a 6 inch figure. I mean really....did the world need 6 inch $20 figures of Cyclotron,Samurai, and Black Vulcan(although he DOES look kind of cool standing on the shelf next to my Birdman figure)? Still...a lot of folks dug it,so I guess I'm just being a grumpy old fanboy. I would have liked to see some more 90's characters...Connor Hawke and Huntress among them. Maybe they'll show up on the sub...although I'm doubtful about Connor. Especially now that he no longer seems to exist in the new DCU.
Got mine today. Pics along with Legacy Batman and Catwoman later. So nice to have a proper Sinestro, not to mention Red Arrow, Reverse Flash and Hawk and Dove. Pics when I get home!
