Wow...I like the little figures A LOT. They almost look like the IDW Comic versions(which BTW,may be the best TMNT comic in AGES). Thats a lot more detail than Playmates usually put into their figures....hope the final versions look as good as those promo shots. And that playset looks pretty sweet as well-not to mention HUGE!!!

The Turtles look interesting, but I'll reserve judgement until we see how much of that detail and paint work make it to the final figures.

But what really impresses me is the sewer lair shown. That looks like it is going to be one of the biggest play sets produced in years for this or any line.

I absolutely love these new designs. As stated above I REAlly hope all the painted and sculpted detail makes it to the pegs. These things will be gorgeous if they do.

There have to be new sculptors and engineers at Playmates.

UPDATE: Looking at the carded samples on display at Toy Fair (or whatever that event is MTV covered) I'm sorry to say there's the typical falloff from prototype to finished product. No paint washes, unpainted weapons, no chains for Mike's chuks. Also, April (who's a child in the new series, apparently) looks to have no elbow articulation and wonky hips and Krang's android body looks spindly-limbed and wilty.

Still excited for them; the turtle sculpts still look nice and detailed, but the proto pics, like just about all proto pics, were rose-colored.

Kinda down off this morning's high...

2nd UPDATE:

*sniff...*

I like the design of the turtles and Krang, but everyone else is meh, especially April.

I wonder why they're making such large figures? Everyone goes down to 3 3/4 the past few years and Playmates goes up?! I kinda figured they were going to do 5ish inch figures but was really hoping we'd see smaller scale. Maybe if I'm lucky we'll see some down the line.

Is TMNT the only big license Playmates has?

TNI has pics of the supporting characters from the first wave. Yeah...they're pretty eh.

In the end, I don't think these are going to be any better than the 2002 figures which, to be honest, I've always thought were quite well sculpted and painted, even if the articulation was limited. The four original turtles from that line are my favorite versions of the boys ever, in fact. I'd hoped these would top them, and the prototype pics do, but, whereas I was really excited for these yesterday, tonight I'm not sure I'll even buy them. Going to have to wait until I see them in person.

Not really. I squeed as I seldom have yesterday when I saw the proto pics, but the carded stuff in the MTV videos just doesn't bear them out.

Like I said, I'm still looking forward to seeing them, but they're not nearly the slam dunk buys they were yesterday.

Plus, this will likely make me take a closer look at the Classics when they turn up.

I'll be ok if they even just paint the weapons. I mean, come on. The 2002 line had that!

I wonder if the press release pics aren't of the TRU exclusive battle shell figures. In the video those have chains on their weapons

The 2002 Turtles had nice paint washes, too.

I like these a lot (even if I do unfortunately wind up having to customize their weapons), and can't wait to get 'em and display 'em next to all of their alternate universe counterparts. =)

Call me optimistic - but my hope is the packaged turtles are unpainted protos rushed as package samples.....

That's hysterical. When I clicked it, only the cartoony ones came up. Oops.
